Margarida Saavedra is a researcher at the Portuguese Institute for the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA). She has an MSc in Aquaculture from Stirling University (Scotland) and a PhD in fish larvae nutrition from Algarve University (Portugal). She has more than 20 years’ experience in fish reproduction and on-growing of species such as seabream, meagre, sole, white seabream, cod, and seahorses. Margarida is specialized in fish nutrition, feed formulation and muscle fibre growth. Her current main interests are related to fish welfare in aquaculture, food security in developing countries and in the launch of educational projects related to aquaculture. In 2022 she was the convener of a session entitled “Sustainable strengthening and safe use of marine and freshwater resources to increase food security in developing countries” which was held at the United Nations headquarters, in NY. In March 2024, a book related to this session will be published.
