Rita Teodósio (she/her) is a Junior Researcher at the Aquaculture Research Group, Centre of Marine Sciences (CCMAR). She graduated from the University of Glamorgan (UK) in 2000 and earned her PhD in Biological Sciences from the University of Algarve (PT) in 2022, specialising in Fish Nutrition. Her expertise lies in fish nutrition applied to aquaculture, with a research focus on developing nutritional strategies to enhance nitrogen retention in fish, reduce the environmental impact of aquafeeds by improving feed efficiency and nutrient utilisation, and optimise diets for specific rearing conditions using sustainable ingredients and functional feed additives. Currently, her work prioritises the development of functional feeds aimed at improving antioxidant and immune status while promoting gut health and integrity in marine fish larvae and juveniles. She aims to adopt an integrative research approach, combining biological, physiological, and untargeted metabolomic data to uncover the mechanisms by which functional feed additives, such as amino acids, influence host-microbiota interactions. Her focus is particularly on the crosstalk between the fish gut and systemic metabolic environments, with the ultimate goal of addressing key challenges in sustainable aquaculture.
