My name is Catarina Teixeira, and from July 2022 until June 2023, I was a researcher on the project IntegraValor "Integrated Strategy for the Valorization of Agrifood By-Products,", which aims to develop an integrated strategy for the valorization of agrifood by-products. I have a degree in Biology and a master's degree in Clinical and Laboratory Biology. As part of my master's thesis, I performed in vivo experiments to assess the effects of a chemical drug on the development of liver fibrosis. After graduation, I worked as a research fellow on the project "Biochemical, morphological, and functional evaluation of breast cancer-induced muscle wasting: the role of exercise training," which aimed to evaluate the role of exercise training in breast cancer-induced muscle wasting. My role was establishing the experimental model, monitoring the animal protocol, collecting biological samples, and performing histological, immunohistochemical, biochemical, and molecular assays. In 2014, I was awarded a PhD grant by the AgriChains program. My PhD project aimed to understand the role of legumes in the prevention and treatment of colorectal cancer. As part of my PhD, I did an internship at the Department of Food Technology, Human Nutrition, and Food Science at the Universidad de Murcia. During that time, I explored the prebiotic potential of food samples in the modulation of gut microbiota and bacterial metabolism using an in vitro model of digestion and fermentation. In addition, I participated in an in vivo experiment that aimed to study the effects of different foods on the regulation of satiety, obesity, and gut microbiota. From 2018 to 2020, I worked as a researcher on the project ValorMar "Full Valorization of Marine Resources: Potential, Technological Innovation, and New Applications." In this project, I used various green technologies (extraction of interest compounds aided by an electric field and enzyme) to valorize marine resources, resulting in novel uses and products for the food, biomedical, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic industries. Later, from 2020 to 2021, I worked as a PostDoc researcher on the project Lead4Target "Fighting metastatic cancers: prime time for ruthenium", which aimed to constitute the field of cancer chemotherapy through the search for new alternatives presenting higher selectivity and efficiency towards tumor cells. After that, I was Invited to be an assistant professor at the Department of Biology at the University of Minho, Portugal. As a Professor, I taught theoretical and practical classes in "Cell Biology", "Applied Animal Biology" and "Animal Physiology and Metabolism". In addition, in the academic years 2021–2022, and 2022–2023, I co-taught and organized the advanced course in Molecular Nutrition. The work I have developed has resulted in the authorship and co-authorship of 18 (nine of them as 1st author or 1st co-author) in peer-reviewed journals, resulting in a total of 576 citations with an h-index of 9 and one award, 12 abstracts in ISI journals, 34 poster communications, and 10 oral In addition, I supervised a master's thesis and four bachelor's projects, mentored or tutored six laboratory works, and was a juror for three academic degrees (two master's degrees and one doctoral degree).
