I am a researcher focused on studying the occurrence and levels, as well as their derived human health impacts, of different kind of environmental pollutants. My research career began while studying my B.Eng+M.Eng in Agricultural Engineering (UPM, Spain/NMBU, Norway) when I worked for the Biotechnology Department through several contracts and internships. Thanks to that, I got used to scientific methodology and teamworking. These skills were further developed while completing my M.Eng in Environmental Engineering (UPM, Spain), which allowed me to get fully familiar with some disciplines, such as public presentations and scientific writing. After a short period working for a consultancy firm in Lima (Peru), the Spanish Ministry for Economy and Competitiveness granted me with an FPI contract to develop my Ph.D. in the URV (Tarragona, Spain). My studies there were focused on the impact of cement plants on surrounding air quality, exploring fields so diverse as chemical characterization, human exposure and risk assessment, toxicology, and source apportionment. During this period my scientific competences increased drastically, successfully publishing my firsts scientific papers, and actively participating in congresses, teaching, dissemination, and mentoring activities. Furthermore, I had the privilege of performing several research internships in international institutions, such as the University of Cardiff (U.K.), University of Antwerp (Belgium), or the California Environmental Protection Agency (U.S.A.). Afterwards, I obtained a postdoctoral position in the Faculty of Engineering o the University of Porto (Portugal). My main role in this institution was the development of low-impact methods to extract and analyze organic emerging pollutants from different environmental matrices (i.e. water, sludge, and air), as well as working along with public entities (i.e., Aguas de Portugal) in the design and optimization of a prototype to remove siloxanes form sewage sludge. From 2022 I have been part of the Spanish National Reference Laboratory for Air Quality, located in the National Center for Environmental Health (ISCIII), immersed in supervising the technical and quality supervision of the Spanish Background Air Quality Network (EMEP/VAG/CAMP). To date, I have published 15 indexed scientific articles and one book chapter, besides contributing with more than 40 items in international conferences. In the near future I would like to explore different strategies to monitor environmental pollutants using low-impact methodologies to allow extensive monitoring exercises to improve exposure/risk assessment and source apportionment.
