Simão Santos is currently a Research Fellow at the Department of Materials and Ceramics Engineering at the University of Aveiro. In 2023, he earned his master´s degree in Materials Engineering with a dissertation focusing on architected aluminium-alumina interpenetrating phase composites. This innovative work applied a hybrid manufacturing approach, combining additive manufacturing and investment casting techniques. His academic pursuits have been further supported by the attribution of two research grants: one targeting the investigation of metallic components with modified surfaces (Add2MechBio), and another centred on the development of light-curing hydrogels loaded with calcium phosphates with rheological properties suitable for additive manufacturing printing (H2020: InterLynk). Simão Santos has actively engaged with his field through participation in various seminars and workshops, including a notable workshop at Wroclaw University of Science and Technology in Poland, where he delved into the fabrication of metal parts with complex geometries. Despite his relatively brief academic career, Simão has already published one article and has two more submitted for peer review in international journals. Outside the academic world, Simão is an avid sportsman with numerous victories in cycling.
