Susana Custódio is an observational seismologist specialised on seismic sources. Her work focuses mostly on earthquakes, but she also keeps an interest for different sources of seismic energy, namely volcanic sources, which include the movement of fluids in the crust, and ambient seismic noise, which is primarily generated by oceanic loading. Her work spans a range of topics, from the fundamental dynamics of seismic sources to real-time seismology, hazard assessment and risk mitigation.. She completed the Doutoramento in Geological Sciences in 2007 at the University of California, Santa Barbara, USA, and before that a Licenciatura in Engenharia Física Tecnológica / Physics Engineering in 2002 by Instituto Superior Técnico at Universidade de Lisboa. She is currently Associate Professor at Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa (FCUL). She has published over 50 articles in top peer-reviewed journals. She has supervised 6 PhD theses (3 ongoing, 3 concluded) and 8 MSc dissertations (2 ongoing, 6 concluded). She has served in several community leadership roles, both in the academic and research environments. She is currently the president of the Executive Committee of ORFEUS (https://www.orfeus-eu.org), was a member of the Executive Council of EMSC (https://www.emsc-csem.org) and a section officer for EGU (https://www.egu.eu). She has been a group leader at her research center (IDL, http://idl.campus.ciencias.ulisboa.pt) of research group RG3: Solid Earth dynamics, hazards and resources. She is currently a member of the Executive Board of IDL. She currently coordinates the BSc in Meteorology, Geophysics and Geophysics at FCUL, and is a member of the executive council of her department.
