I completed my BSc degree in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Algarve in 2019 with a final grade of 16 out of 20. During that period, I organized and participated in several science-related events and volunteered at the microbiology laboratory of Centro de Investigação em Biomedicina (CBMR) for one semester in 2018. I did an internship in the last year of my BSc at Instituto de Investigação e Inovação em Saúde (i3S) under the supervision of Professor Paula Soares. My work focused on validation studies for Uromonitor®, a sensitive urine-based assay for the detection of bladder cancer recurrences. I’ve also participated as a research fellow in the project “TERT promoter mutations detection in bladder cancer" (ref UROEVERIS) and published in the journal Scientific Reports in 2021 as a co-author (doi: 10.1038/s41598-021-89906-w). Soon after, I completed my MSc degree in Oncology at the Institute of Biomedical Sciences Abel Salazar University of Porto in 2021 (final grade of 18 out of 20). My Master’s thesis work was also performed at i3S but in collaboration with Centro Hospitalar Universitário São João. My work focused on the molecular characterization of a series of upper urinary tract urothelial carcinomas. After completing my MSc thesis, I continued as a research fellow at i3S and participated in several projects, which resulted in three abstracts (10.1093/eurpub/ckab120.001, doi: 10.1200/JCO.2022.40.6_suppl.471 and ISSN: 1646-3439) and three oral communications (at the “5th Symposium of the MSc in Oncology” and 2 oral communications at “IJUP 2021 - 14th edition”). In April 2022 I was awarded an internship (Estágios ATIVAR.pt) at U-Monitor, granted by Instituto do Emprego e Formação Profissional (IEFP). As a result of the expertise I’ve gained since my BSc degree, I was co-author of an original article in the journal Diagnostics in 2023 (doi:10.3390/diagnostics13010153). I have also participated with a poster communication in the “XXXV Reunión Nacional del Grupo de Urología Oncológica” in Castellón de La Plana, Spain. I am a highly driven scientist, eager to learn. During my still short but intensive career, I have accumulated advanced technical expertise in the laboratory but also participated in several courses and programs such as the program "Ciência Viva no Laboratório - Ocupação Científica de Jovens nas Férias", for which I completed an internship in “Doenças genéticas” at Instituto Nacional de Saúde Dr. Ricardo Jorge (INSA) and an internship in “Cianobactérias no ataque às células cancerígenas” at Centro de Investigação em Saúde e Ambiente (CISA). I also completed with Honors the course "Writing in the Sciences" from Stanford University (Coursera), I was selected for a poster communication in the upcoming “Porto Cancer Meeting 2023” taking place at i3S and submitted an abstract for the upcoming “IJUP 2023 - 16th edition”. I am now looking to pursue a PhD in cancer research with the possibility to collaborate with internationally renowned laboratories and advance my scientific career.
