Dr. André Lopes earned a B.S. in Biology from São Paulo State University (UNESP) in 2004, followed by an M.S. and Ph.D. in Biochemical and Pharmaceutical Technology from the University of São Paulo (USP) in 2006 and 2010, respectively. His doctoral research focused on upstream and downstream processes for the production of bioproducts related to human health, specifically biotechnological processes for obtaining biomolecules from genetically modified or unmodified microbial sources and their extraction/purification using high and low-resolution methods. In recent years, Dr. Lopes' research has primarily focused on nanobiotechnology, particularly on drug delivery systems (DDS) incorporating therapeutics (such as biopharmaceuticals, biomolecules, and drugs) into various nanostructures, including polymeric micelles, polymersomes, and polymeric scaffolds. He served as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of Biochemical and Pharmaceutical Technology at the University of São Paulo from 2010 to 2014, at the Department of Bioengineering at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA, USA) in 2016, and at the Department of Bioprocess and Biotechnology at São Paulo State University in 2018. Currently, Dr. Lopes is a Professor at the Lorena School of Engineering, University of São Paulo (EEL/USP, Brazil). His research project focuses on the extraction, purification, and encapsulation of (bio)molecules, including biopharmaceuticals and drugs.
