Sara Fateixa (SF), born in Marinha Grande (1984) graduated in Industrial Chemistry/2006 and got a MSc degree in Analytical Chemistry/2007, both from the University of Aveiro (UA/Portugal). In 2008, SF joined as a fellow a national project at CICECO-Aveiro Institute of Materials and Center for Neuroscience (Coimbra/Portugal), acquiring experience in materials chemistry and biochemistry. In 2010, SF was awarded a PhD grant in Nanotechnology & Nanosciences by FCT, for developing polymer composites with MNPs for SERS applications. Phantoms Foundation recognised her doctoral research, receiving the Nanospain2011 Award and the TNT2012 Award. During her PhD, SF completed a visiting research period at CIC biomaGUNE (Spain) and participated in an exclusive SERS workshop. In 2014, SF was awarded a highly competitive Postdoc grant from FCT. From 2014-18, SF pioneered research on MNPs-based textile composites applied to health/environmental remediation using Raman imaging, leading to a new textile dyeing imaging method that was recognised with the 2017 Silver WITec Award. In 2015, SF took a leading role in utilising Portugal's first confocal Raman/SNOM/AFM microscope (CRM), coordinating analyses, data acquisition, and validation at CICECO. SF took maternity leave, slowing down her scientific career from May-November/2016. In 2017, SF joined NanoLab@UA, aiming to develop vibrational imaging methods for drug formulation and quality control. This change in the research topic was very challenging. Leading a collaborative project with Prof. Rui Fausto (Coimbra University), SF studied the polymorphic phases of drugs when exposed to temperature and humidity. Since December/2018, SF is a Researcher under the Norma Transitória DL 57/2016 at DQ/CICECO, developing innovative research on 2D materials (graphene, MoS2) for water quality monitoring and biosensors. In COVID-19 pandemic, SF experienced a lockdown from March-June 2020 (another from January to March 2021), balancing full-time motherhood with maternity leave for her second child (May-November 2020). In 2022, SF was awarded the CICECO Young Researchers Award (€20k), catapulting her research to an international level by collaborating with Germany (Leipzig University) and UK (Glasgow University). SF led a collaborative project on 3D printing to detect water pollutants, leading to outstanding outputs (MSc thesis, ITC conf. grant (€1000), 1 corresponding-author paper) and a visiting researcher period at Glasgow University (UK) in 2024, to strengthen collaborations and develop new projects on 3D printing and electricity production. A new dimension was added to her career in 2024 when she started a collaboration with UT Austin/USA (Prof. Akinwande), securing an exploratory project as Principal Investigator (PI) funded by UTAustin/FCT ($100k, 2024-25). SF has established many national/international collaborations, evidenced by working with 132 researchers, resulting in 65 peer-reviewed papers, a book chapter, 1 national patent (PT116296). Many works appear in high-impact journals, namely Mater. Today Energy (1 paper), Adv. Composites & Hybrid Mater. (1), J.Colloid Interf. Sci (2), Inter. J. Hydrogen Energy (1). Her work has garnered 1205 citations with an h-index of 21. Her work was presented in several conf: 37 orals (7 invited, 1 keynote, 1 plenary, 1 award) and 61 posters (2 awarded). SF served on organising committees at 2 conf. and 1 training school, and attended as a trainee in 3 international workshops (Bio-SERS; smart carbon devices; career development/science communication). SF had supervised 25 students: 2 research fellows, 1 PhD student (ongoing), 5 MSc students (1 ongoing), 10 BSc project students, 8 researcher volunteers (1 ongoing). SF is teaching Fundaments of Chemistry to BSc students and enhances her pedagogical skills through courses: Active Learning & ChatGPT, Pedagogical Program for Teachers, Micro-credential on 3D printing
