Licínio Manuel Gando de Azevedo Ferreira is Assistant Professor with Habilitation in the Department of Chemical Engineering of the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the University of Coimbra. He received the graduation in Chemical Engineering, in 1983, from the University Agostinho Neto (Angola). He holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering from University of Porto with distinction and praise in 1994. He has published more than 90 articles in peer-reviewed journals and chapter books and, more than 50 communications at scientific meetings. Supervised and co-supervised 6 PhD thesis and 39 Master thesis. He coordinated and participated in several projects funded by Research National Foundation (FCT) and industry. He is responsible for the coordination of the separation engineering area of the Group on Environment, Reaction, Separation and Thermodynamics (GERST) of the Chemical Processes Engineering and Forest Products Research Centre (CIEPQPF) of the University of Coimbra. His research activity has focused mainly on the following areas: i) separation of amino acids by ion exchange with pH cyclic variation; ii) separation and recovery of Cr(III) from electroplating effluents using ion-exchange resins, low-cost adsorbents and nanofiltration; iii) treatment and valorization of industrial effluents by integrating membranes (ultrafiltration and nanofiltration), adsorptive processes and advanced oxidation processes; iv) sequestration of carbon dioxide by mineral carbonation and v) regeneration of used lubricant oils by adsorption and solvent extraction.
