Dr. Pablo Arévalo Cid is Junior Researcher at Corrosion Science and Surface Engineering Group (CSSE) at Instituto Superior Técnico (Lisbon, Portugal). He received his PhD degree in Advanced chemistry in February 2017 with the thesis entitled “Preparation and study of magnetic nanocomposites with different employment potential”. Once finished my PhD in 2017 with Cum Laude distinction, he became co-supervisor of a PhD student in Universidad Complutense de Madrid, in the contest of the program of Advanced Chemistry, recently defended with the same mention. He continued with the theme developed during the first years in research, but moving it from the academic point of view towards a more applied one. In the published articles, in his first post-thesis defence year, this evolution can be appreciated. First, Ceram. Int. 43 (2017) 10333-10340, describes the effect of surfactants on the synthesis of magnetite nanoparticles, a basic thematic line. Nevertheless, the following publication, J. Alloy. Compd. 766 (2018) 609-618, applies the synthesized magnetic nanocomposites for Cu2+ removal in water, being the perfect example of this change. In July 2018, he started his Post-doctoral career in the Corrosion Science and Surface Engineering group under the lead of Prof. M. Fátima Montemor. This new position was a supposed a challenge because of the radical change in the research topic, as he started to work on the development of metallic nanofoams-based electrodes for energy storage devices. This new learning opened the possibility to go one step further and in July 2019 he started to work in LEPABE-FEUP into the frame of the project “Solar energy storage into redox flow batteries (SunFlow)”, working in new optimized electrolytes for their employment in solar flow redox batteries. The scientific background of Dr. Arévalo-Cid has been always related with the creation of new chemistries and materials for a more sustainable future, under quite different points of view. All this knowledge led to the acceptance of the project “Development of eco metallic foams-based nanocomposites for pollutants control in industrial processes.” financed by ortuguese Foundation forTechnology and Science (FCT) for the application of the porous metallic foams as sorbents or/and catalyst for waste removal from both water and air. In the last five years Dr. Arévalo-Cid has published eleven articles plus other two manuscripts already submitted in international peer reviewed journals. Additionally, he is a member of Spanish Royal Society of chemistry (RSQE) since 2012, as young researcher, being part of the specialized group of Inorganic Chemistry.
