Katy Nicastro completed the Doctor of Philosophy in Marine Biology in 2008/03/28 by Rhodes University and Laurea in Environmental Sciences in 2004/04/23 by Università degli Studi di Genova Dipartimento di Scienze della Terra dell'Ambiente e della Vita. Currently, she is a Principal Investigator in Centro de Ciências do Mar, Auxiliary Researcher in Rhodes University and Research Associate in Université de Lille. Dr. Nicastro is an ecologist who's research highlights the need to address the impacts of contemporary global change on biodiversity at all levels, including the most basic, functional diversity. Most of the work used marine macroalgae and invertebrates as model species and, through physiological, ecological, modelling and evolutionary approaches, it underlines the importance of intraspecific genetic variation. She has published 54 articles in journals, has 1 book, h-index of 24 and over 1200 citations. She has co-supervised 1 PhD thesis, currently supervising 1 PhD and co-supervising another one. She has supervised 6 MSc dissertations e co-supervised 4, supervised 1 BSc thesis e co-supervised 1 and has received 4 awards and/or honors. Dr Nicastro currently participates or participated as Principal investigator in 5 projects and as researcher in 6. During her professional activities, she interacted with more than 177 collaborators co-authorship of scientific papers.
