Paulo J. Palma obtained PhD in Endodontics in 2013 from the University of Coimbra. He is an expert in endodontic regeneration procedures. His current research interest includes applications of novel biomaterials and nanomaterials to improve root canal therapy and vital pulp therapy for the treatment of endodontic infections. He has published 42 research articles with 1065 citations (Google Scholar h-index=20; i10 index -25), including in journals such as Journal Endodontics and Clinical Oral Investigations, Odontology, Biomaterials Science, Journal of Materials Chemistry B and Biomedicines. As an educator, he is an Assistant Professor at the University of Coimbra since 2014 to teach experimental classes to Endodontics degree students and postgraduate of endodontics. He is also in charge of the discipline of Endodontic III of Master integrated Dental Medicine of Faculty of Medicine. He is the sub-director of the Center for Innovation and Research in Oral Sciences (CIROS) of FMUC and an integrated member of the Center for Research and Innovation in Dental Sciences from 2019. He has participated in 22 national and international research projects and an active collaborator in 14 projects. Prof. Palma is the main supervisor of MSc and PhD students. He is a regular dentist in the Dental clinic. He has vast experience in project management, leadership, and public engagement, as evidenced by an active role in scientific and academic committees. He has organized scientific events and conferences in many areas of endodontics. He was acknowledged for his scientific excellence with twenty Merit Awards such as the personality of the year in Endodontics 2014 (Portugal) and the 5th edition of the Oral Health Awards. He is currently a certified member of the European Society of Endodontology (ESE), Member of the Scientific Advisory Board of Journal of Endodontics, Scientific Board Member of the Portuguese Society of Endodontology, Scientific Board Member of the Portuguese Society of Digital Dentistry and European Academy of Digital Dentistry. He is a co-founding member of the Portuguese Society of Digital Dentistry and a founding member of the European Academy of Digital Dentistry. He is a member of the following national and international scientific associations including an active member of the International Association for Dental Research (IADR); member of the Scientific group of Pulp Biology and Regeneration of the IADR; member of the International Association for Dental Traumatology; International member of the American Society of Endodontists. Also, He serves as a peer reviewer for more of the 70 different journals (Scientific Report, Journal of Endodontics, European Endodontic Journal, MDPI Journals) and is also Associate Editor of the European Endodontic Journal. Top Reviewer 2019 for Web of Science, and with more than 600 articles verified (Web of science) reviews for more than 100 Journals, such as Journal of Endodontic, International Endodontic Journal, Scientific Reports, Clinical Oral Investigations, European Endodontic Journal, Journal of Biomedical Materials Research Part B: Applied Biomaterials, and many MDPI Journals. Recently, he has published research papers in areas of endodontics, bone replacement materials and implants; biomaterials; canal instrumentation materials; canal filling materials and pulp regeneration, antimicrobial, biocompatibility, antimicrobial, and Nanomaterials.
