Ana Isabel Ribeiro (AIR) finished her Ph.D. in Textile Engineering at the Centre for Textile Science and Technology (2C2T) at the University of Minho Portugal with an individual grant from Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (FCT), with the subject "Atmospheric-pressure plasma deposition of antimicrobial hybrid nanocomposites for biomedical textiles". Previously, AIR graduated in Chemistry (2010) and obtained a Master's in Medicinal Chemistry (2013). Later, AIR completed a second graduation in Textile Engineering (2017). In 2014, AIR started working in the textile printing industry in Reborestampa - Têxtil, Lda., Portugal. For two years, she worked as a product manager in implementing the standards (EN ISO 9001 and EN ISO 14001) and the Ready to Manufacture (RTM) Inditex's manufacturing code. She also worked in product certification according to standard 100 by OEKO-TEX, in the management of the testing laboratory and controlled the stock of chemical products according to the Manufacturing Restricted Substances List (MRSL). From the end of 2016 until 2018, AIR joined 2C2T as a researcher in the PLASMATEX, a European Union-funded network project, to develop a "Novel type of antibacterial coatings on textile materials and plastics with the controllable release of antibacterial agent. Afterwards, in parallel with her PhD, she integrated the project PLASMAMED funded by FCT (2018-2022). Furthermore, AIR had an active role in funding acquisition and developing the project MEDCOR on the topic "Antimicrobial and halochromic fibre-based wound dressings using novel pyrimidine-derived molecules" (since 2021). Thus, since 2016, AIR has been interested in developing antimicrobial and smart textiles for biomedical applications by functionalising fibrous materials with nanoparticles and novel compounds. AIR currently integrates projects within the scope of the circular economy for the recovery of residues, looking for sustainable alternatives for the tanning of fibrous materials of animal origin (Blue Project from EEA Grants), sustainable methods of recycling synthetic and vegetable industrial waste (Lusitano Project funded by IAPMEI) and products with high added value from biological resources (BEAT project funded by Portuguese Government). AIR has interdisciplinary scientific knowledge in nanotechnology, pharmacology, drug delivery, material science, biomaterials, conductive materials, tissue engineering, biosensors and sustainability. In the last few years, AIR has been the (co-)author of 25 peer-reviewed papers in international journals (13 as first author), 5 book chapters and 3 proceedings with an h-factor of 11 in Scopus (435 citations). AIR has participated in several knowledge dissemination activities with 41 participations in national and international meetings (including 4 oral presentations, 14 poster presentations, 41 conference abstracts and in organising 3 events). In addition, AIR is a Guest Editor of two special Issues of the MDPI journals. The participation in COST proposals and international projects amplified her global network. She has the privilege of collaborating with 83 co-authors spread across 10 countries. On a constant journey, AIR's motivations are to create a better future by embracing challenges based on the highest standards and combining multidisciplinary teams, creativity and engineering.
