Graduated in Biochemistry from the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Coimbra (2010-2013), with a MSc degree in Clinical Analysis from the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Coimbra (2013-2015). Due to scientific research and contact with laboratories at health institutions, she has always followed an academic and professional path associated with the laboratory environment. In 2011, as part of an extracurricular internship (summer internship), she worked as Assistant Researcher at the Clinical and Molecular Genetics Unit of the National Institute of Legal Medicine (INMLCF). During this period she was part of a research group whose object of study focused on the association between genes and risk behaviors, such as alcoholism, smoking, drug use or suicide, having essentially performed laboratory assistance functions. Functions performed as Assistant Researcher: - Extraction and isolation of nucleic acids; - Carrying out PCR and electrophoresis; - Statistical data processing. As a project/dissertation to complete her degree in Biochemistry (curricular internship, 2012-2013), she once again worked as an Assistant Researcher at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra. Under the guidance of Professor Anabela Sarmento, she developed scientific research and perform laboratory technics, which allowed deeper contact with scientific research. With the project theme "Effect of Vismodegib on Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia", she essentially developed work on cell lines. Functions performed as Assistant Researcher: - Manipulation of cell cultures; - Cell counting (Neubauer chamber and automatic counting); - Search for scientific articles in the field of Hematology and Oncology. In 2014-2015, to obtain the MSc degree in Clinical Analysis, she completed a curricular internship at the Clinical Pathology Service of the Portuguese Institute of Oncology of Coimbra, Francisco Gentil E.P.E., under the guidance of Doctor Frederico Valido and Professor Teresa Dinis. In this sector she integrated the laboratory routine associated with this health institution, having worked as a Senior Health Technician in the different areas of the Clinical Pathology Service: Clinical Hematology, Clinical Microbiology, Clinical Biochemistry, Immunology and RIA. Functions performed as a Senior Health Technician: - Clinical Hematology: Blood count, staining and observation of blood smears, hemostasis studies and immunophenotyping studies; - Clinical Microbiology: Identification of microorganisms, antibiogram, direct fresh and stained examination, type II urine summary with observation of urinary sediment; - Clinical Chemistry: Blood analysis, determination of ionized calcium and manual techniques; - Immunology and RIA: Immunoassays, proteinogram, immunofixation and manual techniques. Due to inexperience in collecting organic samples left by the academic career, in 2017 she voluntarily attended training in that area. This training took place at the Clinical Pathology Service of the Portuguese Institute of Oncology of Coimbra, Francisco Gentil E.P.E., and allowed the acquisition of the necessary skills to carry out the collection in cancer patients (under treatment and surveillance). Currently part of the technical team of the laboratories at Escola Universitária Vasco da Gama, a higher education institution where she works as a Laboratory Technician since 2020.
