Maria Arminda Alves Costa graduated in Chemical Engineering, at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP) in 1983 and obtained the PhD in Chemical Engineering in 1992. Since 2014 she is Full Professor at the Department of Chemical Engineering and Director of the ALICE - Associate Laboratory in Chemical Engineering (since 2021), a consortium of the three main research centers in chemical engineering in Portugal (LEPABE, CEFT and LSRE-LCM), with more than 400 researchers. She was the former Director of the Research Unit - LEPABE - Laboratory of Process Engineering, Environment, Energy and Biotechnology (https://www.lepabe.fe.up.pt, 2013-2023) and Director of the Doctoral Program in Environmental Engineering (FEUP) (2020-2022). She develops relevant scientific activity: 197 scientific papers in international journals indexed to SCI, over 6500 citations, H-index of 47. She was responsible for 20 research projects funded by competitive calls (12 ME funding) and participated in other 15 (one European FP- 7). She supervised 12 doctoral theses and more than 50 master theses. She has been member of evaluation committees of doctoral grants (FCT) and scientific reports of projects (FCT). In the last 40 years, she has been actively involved in several curricular units of the degrees of Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering and Bioengineering, as Instrumental Methods of Analysis, Environmental Chemistry and Quality Management Systems), coordinating the scientific area of Chemistry at the Chemical Engineering Department. She also coordinates several curricular units of soft skills as Interpersonal Skills, of the Doctoral Program of Chemical and Biological Engineering and the Curriculum Vitae and Open Science. She is member of the Scientific Council of the Doctoral Program in Chemical and Biological Engineering of FEUP. Concerning knowledge transfer she is co-inventor of one patent, she was responsible for 14 contracts with companies or public entities, participated in Scientific and Technical Committees of professional and government organizations, and has conducted internal audits of chemical analysis laboratories. She participated in the faculty management at various levels: from 2013-2018 as Director of the Chemical Engineering Department, from 2014 to the present as member of the Scientific Council of the Faculty of Engineering and from 2021 as member of the Faculty Committee of the Performance Evaluation of the Teaching Staff.
