Jo-Anne Sharon Ferreira completed the Doctor of Philosophy in Linguistics in 1999 at The University of the West Indies, St Augustine, pursued a Postgraduate Especialização em Línguas Indígenas Brasileiras in 1998 at the Museu Nacional Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, and read for a Bachelor of Arts in Language and Literature (Linguistics and French) in 1989 at The University of the West Indies, St Augustine. She also holds certificates from the International Phonetic Association (IPA) and SIL International. She is Senior Lecturer in Linguistics at The University of the West Indies, St Augustine, President of the Society for Caribbean Linguistics (SCL) and a member of SIL International (Americas Area). She has published one book (1994, revised edition 2018), 9 articles in refereed journals, 9 peer-reviewed book chapters, 4 other articles, and 5 encyclopedia entries. She works in the area of Humanities with emphasis on Linguistics, specifically endangered heritage languages of Trinidad and Tobago (French Creole and Portuguese). In her curriculum Ciência Vitae, the most frequent terms in the context of scientific, technological and artistic-cultural output are: "Emigração; Literatura popular; Linguística portuguesa; e o resgate e documentação de Línguas de herança nacionais em perigo de extinção."
