Licínia Justino, currently a Researcher at the Coimbra Chemistry Center, University of Coimbra, completed her graduation (Industrial Chemistry, 1996), and PhD studies (Chemistry, specialization in Molecular Spectroscopy, 2007) at the same University. She carried out her Ph.D. studies at the Chemistry and Physics Departments, UC, and during that time she also worked for a period at the Department of Chemistry of the University of Wuerzburg, Germany, carrying out research in inorganic computational chemistry. After obtaining her Ph.D., Licínia Justino was awarded two FCT Post-Doctoral Research Fellowships (from 2007-2013 and 2014-2019) to carry out research work at the Coimbra Chemistry Center. In 2019, she obtained a Researcher position at the same research center. Licínia Justino is the co-author of 2 book chapters and 53 articles in peer-reviewed international scientific journals, with 700 citations and h-index = 18 (Scopus) and she has presented 47 communications in national and international scientific meetings. She has participated as a team member in 7 FCT financed research projects and she is involved in projects with the chemical industry. She is a member of the research core team of the FCT-PhD program ChemMat, on Materials Chemistry. She currently co-supervises one PhD and two Master students, and has co-supervised several other Master and undergraduate students. She has also been involved in the organization of workshops, conferences and science dissemination activities. She was awarded the Prof. Dr. António Jorge Andrade de Gouveia Prize by the Chemistry Department, UC, in 1996. In parallel with her research activities, she was Assistant Lecturer and Invited Assistant Professor at the Chemistry Department, UC, and for many years she has been involved in teaching various chemistry subjects at the Chemistry Department. Over the last years, her work and interests have been focused on the characterization of (transition, lanthanide and actinide) metal complexes and conjugated organic polymers and polyelectrolytes designed for applications in chemo- and bio-sensors, photovoltaics and light-emitting-diodes. Her research interests involve the use of quantum chemistry computational and spectroscopic methods to study the structure, conformation, aggregation behavior and ground and excited state energetics of the molecules, and to understand and predict structure-property-function relationships to allow a rational design of molecules tailored for specific purposes. Her research interests also involve the study of small organic molecules of biological/pharmaceutical relevance using computational methods and matrix-isolation coupled with FTIR spectroscopy for the optical control of conformationally dependent photochemical reactions.
