Lígia Mateus is a Project Manager at LIED - Laboratory of Pedagogical Innovation and Distance Learning at the Polytechnic University of Tomar (IPT). She is a PhD student in Heritage, Technology and Territory at the Autonomous University of Lisbon and the IPT. She holds a Master's degree in Conservation and Restoration - Movable Heritage and a degree in Conservation and Restoration from the Tomar School of Technology of the IPT. She was Secretary General of the Portuguese Military Tourism Association for three years and played a crucial role in the creation of projects to promote and enhance Portugal's military-historical heritage and as a bridge between the different national organisations working on the subject of military tourism. She was also Deputy Director of the magazine "Viagem na História - Turismo Militar", responsible for the editorial coordination and writing of the magazine. She has worked as a collaborating conservator-restorer at the Conservation and Restoration Laboratory of the IPT, in the field of easel painting and polychrome wood sculpture. She is a collaborating researcher at TECHN&ART - Centre for Technology, Restoration and Valorisation of the Arts (R&D unit) where she has already developed projects in the field of enhancing military and historical heritage and tourism, as well as in the field of the preservation of tangible and intangible cultural heritage. She is also a collaborating researcher at CGeo - Geosciences Centre (R&D unit). Her expertise fields of research include cultural heritage, specifically historical and military heritage, military tourism and conservation and restoration. She has published several papers, book chapters, an encyclopedia entry and participated in various national and international conferences and scientific meetings. She is also often invited to participate as a guest speaker and moderator in various conferences, seminars and round tables at national and international events, as well as a trainer in the field of military tourism.
