Rafael F. S. Caldeirinha (S’00, M’2001, SM’15) was born in Leiria, Portugal, in 1974. He received the B.Eng. (Hons.) degree in Electronic and Communication Engineering and the Ph.D. degree from the University of Glamorgan, U.K., in 1997 and 2001, respectively, and the Habilitation (Agregação) title by the University of Aveiro (Portugal) in 2020. He is currently a Senior Researcher and Head of the Antennas & Propagation (A&P-Lr) Research Group and Research Cluster Coordinator on A&P (at national level), Instituto de Telecomunicações, Leiria, since 2010, and Full Professor in Telecommunications at Polytechnic of Leiria (Portugal), since 2001. His research interests include studies of radiowave propagation through vegetation media, including wildfires, radio channel sounding and modeling, radar imaging and radiometry, and reconfigurable intelligent surfaces,for applications at micro- and millimetre-wave frequencies. Prof. Caldeirinha has authored or co-authored more than 200 papers in conferences and international journals, two national patents, and 4 contributions to ITU-R Study Group, which formed the basis of the ITU–R P.833–5 (2005) recommendation. Prof. Caldeirinha was Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation journal from 2016-2022; Associate Editor of the IET on Microwaves, Antennas and Propagation journal; Member of the editorial board of the International Journal of Communication Systems, IJCS (New York, Wiley); Appointed Officer for Awards and Recognitions of the IEEE Portugal section in 2014; Chair of the IEEE Portugal Joint Chapter on Antennas & Propagation - Electron Devices - Microwave Theory & Techniques from 2016 to 2021; Regional Delegate of European Association for Antennas and Propagation (EurAAP) for Andorra, Portugal and Spain from 2017 -2023 and Member of Board of Directors (and Secretary/Treasurer) since 2023; Chair of the Scientific Committee F (Propagation and Remote Sensing) of the Portuguese International Union of Radio Science (URSI) Committee since 2019; President of National Technical Commission for Electrotechnical Standardization CTE 106 - Electromagnetic fields in the human environment (CENELEC); and a Senior Member of IEEE and URSI and Fellow Member of IET.
