Javier Andres Forero Valencia is a civil engineer with a strong academic background and international experience in research and teaching. He holds a PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Brasília, Brazil, with a sandwich PhD at Instituto Superior Técnico in Lisbon, and a Master’s degree from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro. His academic degrees are recognised in Portugal. He specialises in the study of sustainable construction materials, focusing on the treatment of recycled aggregates, the performance of innovative concretes, and the application of magnesium oxide as a sustainable alternative in cementitious binders. He has worked as a lecturer at the University Centre of Brasília and the University of Brasília, contributing to the education and training of new professionals. Throughout his career, he has participated in significant research projects, such as DecarbonCrete in Portugal, aimed at concrete decarbonisation, and has conducted investigations into the durability and mechanical properties of sustainable concretes. He is currently part of C5Lab – Collaborative Laboratory for Sustainable Construction Materials in Portugal, where he contributes to the development of innovative technologies for enhancing sustainability in construction. In addition to his work in sustainable construction development, he is also employing machine learning techniques in the cement industry for clinker quality control. He has published numerous articles in high-impact scientific journals, covering topics such as the use of seawater in concrete, the application of magnesium oxide in cementitious materials, and the enhancement of recycled aggregates for improved performance.
