Rosa Maria Perez is a former professor at the Department of Anthropology, ISCTE- University of Lisbon Institute and a senior researcher at the CRIA - Center for Research in Anthropology. She has been a visiting professor of Anthropology at the Indian Institute of Technology (Gandhinagar) since 2011. Perez has delivered lectures in India, Africa (Mozambique), Europe (France, UK, The Netherlands, Denmark), Brazil (University of São Paulo and UFRJ), and the US, especially at Brown University, where she was a visiting professor for over ten years. Her main area of research is Indian society and social segregation, with a particular emphasis on Dalit and women's studies, colonialism, post-colonialism in India, fieldwork methodology, public anthropology, and human rights. Perez is a consultant for the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), the United Nations, and the European Alliance for Asian Studies (EAAS). She is also a member of the council of the International Institute for Asian Studies (IIAS) and a reviewer of the European Research Council (ERC). She has served as a consultant for various European committees on India and South Asia and Anthropology. Perez is a member of the editorial board of Portuguese and international scientific journals.
