Aurora Barros-Barbosa graduated in Biochemistry at Faculty of Sciences - University of Porto in 2009 and she obtained an MSc
degree in Biochemistry at the same institution in 2011. In May 2016, Aurora Barros-Barbosa completed her PhD in Biomedical
Sciences at Instituto de Ciências Biomédicas Abel Salazar - University of Porto (ICBAS-UP), and two months later, she got
a Post-Doc position in the Organelle Biogenesis and Function group at Institute of Molecular and Cellular Biology/Institute
for Investigation and Innovation in Health - University of Porto (IBMC/i3S-UP). Her main research interest has been to understand
mammalian peroxisomal biogenesis, in particular the molecular mechanisms of protein import. More recently, she is also focused
on the mechanisms involved in degradation of peroxisomes (pexophagy). Since 2017 Aurora Barros-Barbosa has also been an
invited assistant professor at University of Porto teaching Biochemistry to students of the Medicine and Veterinarian Medicine
courses, Biophysics and Biochemistry to students of Aquatic Sciences course and Molecular Biology to students of MSc in Biochemistry.
In the current academic year (2020-2021), she is teaching a total of 142 hours of both theoretical, theoretical-practical
and practical lessons. Aurora Barros-Barbosa co-supervised 1 MSc student (completed), and 1 BSc student (completed). She
published 13 papers in international peer-reviewed journals, most in top journals (total citations in Scopus 169; H-index
in Scopus 8), and she was author or co-author of more than 20 communications presented in national and international meetings.
In May 2019, Aurora Barros-Barbosa got FELASA accreditation to independently plan, implement and take responsibility for the
design and performance of animal experimentation within the European Union, according to the directive 2010/63/EU. Since 2020,
she has acted as referee for journals in her area of expertise (Cells and Journal of Personalized Medicine).
