Luisa Gouveia (female) Chemical Engineering (IST, Technical University of Lisbon - TUL), MSc in Food Science and Technology (TUL), PhD in Biotechnology (IST, TUL). The production of microalgal biomass and its use as colouring in the food chain for animal feed (e.g. egg yolk, trout, seabream, ornamental fish) and food products (e.g. mayonnaises, cookies, puddings, pasta, bread, ice-creams) has been extensively and widely studied by the researcher since 1987. Microalgae for CO2 mitigation, wastewater treatment, lipids and pigments production were subject of intense research dedication. Supercritical CO2 extraction of bioactive high-value compounds, as well as biofuel production (biodiesel, bioethanol, biogas, bio-hydrogen, bio-oil and bio-char)-based microalgae biomass, were also carried by the researcher. Bio-fertilizers/pesticides/plastics are the latest main area of research. Another recent focus is the Techno-economic evaluation and Life Cycle Assessment of processes and technologies involving microalgae and biorefineries-based microalgae. Luisa Gouveia has 85 peer-reviewed papers, 1 book, 15 book chapters (h-index=33), participated in a total of 28 projects and coordinated 3 (FCT), which are directly related to microalgae, biofuels and bioactive compounds: “Pigments, antioxidants and PUFA’S in microalgae-based food products - functional and structural implications”; “Bio-H2 production from the cyanobacteria Anabaena sp. and its mutants”; “Microalgae as a sustainable raw material for biofuels production (biodiesel, bioethanol, bio-H2 and biogas)”, and coordinated one LIFE+ Project "From Wastewater Treatment Plants To Biorefineries". Team member of DEMA - Direct Ethanol from MicroAlgae (FP7), Symbioalga (FCT), Carofuel (FCT), ESIBITS (FCT) and BioSustain (FCT), Converte (POSEUR), Brisk II, PHOENIX, SUDOTEK, GreenBiorefinery, Cost Action 1408-EUALGAE as Vice-Coordinator, EUROCAROTEN, ALGAVALOR, Red Cyted RENUWAL as Vice-coordinator, Bilateral Portugal-Serbia as Coordinator - all related with microalgae. Luisa Gouveia has been Associate Editor of Biotechnology for Biofuels journal, regular referee (for more than 90 scientific journals) and member of R&D project evaluation panels. She supervised and co-supervised more than 100 Degree, MSc and PhD students.
