Ana Sofia Pacheco Marques Augusto

I’ve graduated in Applied Plant Biology (2001) from Faculty of Sciences of University of Lisbon (FCUL), in Food Safety and Technology (2007) from Faculty of Sciences and Technology of New University of Lisbon and completed a PhD degree in Biology (2012) also in FCUL. After finishing my PhD, I moved to Tarragona (Spain) with an Inter-European Marie Curie Fellowship for Career Development financed by the European Commission, a two-year project to be conducted at Universitat Rovira i Virgili within the field of Environmental Chemistry. In 2016, I decided to embrace a completely new research field and I successfully applied for a six-year postdoctoral fellowship within the field of Public Health to be conducted at the ISPUP, back to Portugal, financed by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). ******************************************************************************************************************************************************************* My research focuses on understanding the relationships between humans and the environment from a human health standpoint. For many years I have been involved in studying the impact of anthropogenic activity in air quality. During the last years, I have been engaged in understanding how human health is affected not only by anthropogenic activities but also by natural events (e.g., forest fires). More recently, I have started to include climate change in the equation of my interests. ******************************************************************************************************************************************************************* The outcome of my research is reflected in 101 scientific outputs related to Environmental Sciences – 29 articles in SCI journals (5 in the last 5 years), 5 book chapters (1 published by the WHO) (2 in the last 5 years), 56 communications in national and international scientific events (35 oral and 23 posters) (5 as invited speaker, 1 plenary session, and 2 as chair) (12 in the last 5 years), and 11 conference abstracts and papers – accumulating over 715 citations (WoS), 913 (Scopus) or 1359 (google scholar), to yield an H-index of 17 (WoS), 18 (Scopus) or 20 (google scholar). ****************************************************************************************************************************************************************** I was involved as team member and/or as a research fellow in 8 research projects (2 FCT funded projects, 2 LIFE-ENV projects, 1 project funded by the Spanish government, 2 fellowship projects funded by the FCT, and 1 fellowship project funded by the European Commission) and 4 consultancy projects funded by industries and municipalities. I was responsible for the subject Sustainability Tools of the international Master’s in Environmental Engineering and Sustainable Production at URV, and I delivered lectures and practical classes of Environmental and Food Biotechnology, Environment and Health, Water and Food Analysis, Biology and Biomedical Sciences for 5 years at Universidade Atlântica (Barcarena, Portugal). I was also involved in the scientific and organizing committees of 2 advanced courses during 9 years at cE3c. I has co-supervised 2 master and 2 PhD students, I was member of the jury of 4 PhD defenses and of 5 Master defenses, and I has participated in the evaluation panel of research projects in two competitive calls. I am also referee for various scientific journals.
