Pedro Viegas completed the MSc in Physics Engineering in Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), Portugal, in 2015. He then earned his PhD degree in École Polytechnique and Université Paris-Saclay, France, in 2018. During his PhD, Pedro developed and used a 2D fluid model for helium plasma jets. His work focused on characterization of helium plasma jets through numerical simulations and comparisons with experiments. The first ever quantitative comparisons between simulations and experiments have been obtained, with excellent agreement, improving the confidence of the community in key physical quantities in plasma jet systems. This work provided a total of 9 peer-reviewed papers, including a topical review. After his PhD, Pedro worked as postdoctoral researcher at DIFFER, The Netherlands, the leading institute in research in renewable fuels, for 2 years, and at Masaryk University, Czech Republic, for 1 year. Besides plasma jets, Pedro became engaged with energy research and specialized in modelling plasmas for sustainable electrochemical conversion. His work allowed to develop a new and faster numerical method for simulation of vibrational kinetics, and to gain insights into the contraction dynamics of the relevant plasmas, that can be crucial for reactor optimization. In March 2022, Pedro started working at IST, University of Lisbon, Portugal, developing expertise also in modelling plasma-surface interactions. He won the Junior Researcher Scientific Employment Stimulus competition of the portuguese Science and Technology Foundation, and thus is now a Researcher with increasing engagement in teaching, student supervision and the development of new projects on plasma electrochemical conversion. Pedro's trajectory is marked by international mobility, collaborations with different groups and a strong willingness for comparison and complementarity between simulations and experiments.
