V. F. Cardoso is an Assistant Researcher at the Microelectromechanical Systems Research Unit-CMEMS (reference 2020.02304.CEECIND), which also participates in the Associate Laboratory in Biotechnology, Bioengineering and Electromechanical Systems-LABBELS). She holds a Master degree in Biomedical Engineering with specialization in Medical Electronics (2008) and a Doctoral degree in Biomedical Engineering (2012), both from University of Minho (UM). Between 2013 and 2014, she integrated a research team at Life and Health Sciences Research Institute-ICVS from UM and between 2014 and 2018 she was a Postdoctoral Researcher at the CMEMS and the Centre of Physics, from UM. She was visiting scientist and collaborates with national and international institutions, including Fraunhofer Institute for Biomedical Engineering (DE), Portuguese Institute of Oncology-Porto (PT, Institute of Microelectronics of Barcelona (ES), Indian Institute of Technology Jodhpur (IND), Boston University (USA), Delft University of Technology (NL), International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (PT), among others, in the scope of research projects and student's supervision (including industry). Her research work focuses on the design, fabrication and validation of innovative miniaturized (including microfluidic) biomedical platforms, serving as one of the primary coordinators of the Clean Room Facilities at CMEMS. She has also been actively involved on the development, processing, characterization, and application of smart and multifunctional materials with tailored physicochemical properties using diverse processing technology (e.g. additive manufacturing, soft lithography, solvent-based processing techniques, thin film deposition, among others) for various technological applications considering the Industry 4.0 paradigm and sustainability. Since 2024, she has established and coordinated the Miniaturized Biomedical Technology Laboratory (µBiomTech.Lab) at CMEMS, dedicated to point-of-care platforms, miniaturized biomedical devices, and the micro/nano fabrication of advanced (bio)materials for (bio)technological applications. She participated in more than 20 national and European projects (including as PI), 3 of them in progress (including 1 HORIZON-RIA) and 4 submitted (2 as PI). She published 75 indexed papers (Scopus; +1accepted and +2under review; >45% as 1st or last author) with over 2700 citations (average IF>10 since 2019, i.e. past 5 years, and current h-index of 21). She also published 7 book chapters and delivered more than 35 invited talks. She was/is guest editor of various special issues at international peer-reviewed journals and a book, reviewer in peer-reviewed journals and scientific evaluator of international research proposals (e.g. EIC Pathfinder, MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships, Graduate Women in Science Fellowship Program, Slovak Research and Development Agency). She (co)supervised over 45 students (12 in non-academic environment), including PhD (3 completed), master and undergraduate degrees, as well as Erasmus students and research fellows under the projects she coordinates and participates, promoting the training and engagement of young researchers. She is currently (co)supervising 3 PhD (1 in non-academic environment) and 7 master students. She also has been jury in more than 15 defences of academic degrees. She (co)organized and participated in various scientific events and has received various conference, academic and scientific merit awards. She integrates the prestigious "World's Top 2% Scientists list 2022". From 2010 to 2013, she was an assistant professor at Cooperative Higher Educational Polytechnic and University-CESPU and between 2017-2019 and since 2025 she was an invited assistant professor at UM (700h). She was also responsible for the supervision and the management of professional internships in various companies.
