João Manuel Barbosa Meneses de Sequeira has had a distinguished career in architectural research, academia, and the European research network landscape. His academic journey began with a degree in Architecture from the Technical University of Lisbon, followed by a master's in Urban Design at ISCTE and a PhD in Urbanism and Architecture at ULHT Lusófona University in 2009. Since then, he has actively contributed to both national and international architectural research and education. Sequeira’s research primarily focuses on Heritage, Arts, Sustainability, and Territory, working within research centres such as CHAIA at the University of Évora and IN2PAST, which fosters interdisciplinary collaboration across these fields. He is currently leading the PArTE project (Heritage, Art, Territory, and Ecology) at the University of Beira Interior, where he coordinates the Arts Research Unit (iA*) and its initiatives on architectural heritage. Sequeira has established himself as a key figure within the European architectural research community. He co-founded the Architecture Research European Network Association (ARENA) in 2012, where he has contributed to major projects such as "Radical Architecture Practice for Sustainability" (RAPS) and the "Design Research, Series on Method" (DR_SOM). His notable works include studies on architectural drawings, urban morphology, and reflections on sustainable architecture. He has published critical texts that explore the evolving role of architecture in addressing societal and environmental challenges. His editorial contributions, such as his work on the proceedings of the ARBD International Conference on Architectural Research by Design, exemplify his active role in disseminating architectural knowledge and fostering debate within the academic community. Beyond his publications, Sequeira has served as an evaluator for several prominent national and international research bodies, including Portugal's Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), the ERASMUS+ National Agency, and various international funding agencies, such as the Research Foundation – Flanders (FWO), the Royal Danish Academy (KADK), and the Slovenian Research Agency (ARRS).
