Aires Colaço is a PhD Researcher at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP) and an Integrated Member
of the R&D Institute in Structures and Construction (CONSTRUCT). He also holds the position of Invited Assistant Professor
at FEUP. Aires Colaço completed his academic formation at FEUP, achieved an MSc degree in Civil Engineering (specializing
in Geotechnics) in 2012 and a PhD degree (Cum laude) in Civil Engineering in 2019. The PhD thesis was awarded with the prizes
"Prémio Joaquim Sarmento 2019" - Fundação Eng. António de Almeida and "Prémio SPA 2018/2020" - Portuguese Acoustic Society.
Aires Colaço is the author or co-author of 32 articles in international peer-reviewed journals, 2 book chapters, and 33 scientific
papers published in proceedings of international conferences. One of his articles published received the Best Research into
Practice Paper Prize 2022, awarded by The Institution of Structural Engineers (UK). Aires Colaço was the Principal Investigator
(PI) of a research project and co-PI for another project, both funded by FCT. He is/was also involved in six other research
projects (national and international). Further, the scientific work performed over the last years enabled the development
of several consulting works, both nationally and internationally, related to the dynamic and geotechnical analysis of railway
systems, collaborating with companies such as Mott-McDonald, Metro do Porto, WorldBank, among others. Due to the innovative
nature and practical applicability of his research activities, Aires Colaço was awarded by Ordem dos Engenheiros (Engineering
Institution) with the Prize Jovem Engenheiro 2019 which aims to distinguish the best innovative idea in the field of Engineering
developed by engineers under 35 years old.
