Oxide electronics has been at the core of my 20 years research path. I started to work on it during my Materials Engineering degree in 2003, when fabrication of transparent oxide thin-film transistors (TFTs) was starting worldwide. There were so many challenges ahead that I decided to pursue my Ph.D. in Nanotechnologies and Nanosciences (NN) in that topic, at NOVA School of Science and Technology (FCT-NOVA, concluded in 2010). In 2012 I became Assistant Professor at the Materials Science Department, FCT-NOVA, creating novel curricular units in the field of microelectronics and nanofabrication, linked to my research. Being integrated in the dynamic team of the Materials Research Center (CENIMAT) enabled me to be involved in multiple collaborative projects and build strong competences within oxide electronics, from materials to circuit integration. This allowed me to be internationally competitive and earn in 2016 an ERC Starting Grant (TREND) on pushing the boundaries of oxide electronics to autonomous and nanoelectronic systems. I became Associate Professor at FCT-NOVA in 2018 and coordinator of the Doctoral program in NN in 2019. Since 2022 I am group leader of Materials for Electronics, Optoelectronics and Nanotechnology (MEON) at CENIMAT (70+ members). I have been involved in 45+ research projects, representing 20M€+ for NOVA (10M€ as local-PI or coordinator). Technology transfer is also within my interests, through co-authoring of 5 international patents and an ongoing ERC Proof of Concept Grant (FLETRAD). As dissemination landmarks, I co-authored 170+ peer-reviewed papers (h-index=58, as February 2024), 3 books and gave 80 invited presentations (7 keynotes/plenary). Since 2020 I am editor at the prestigious IEEE EDL, TFT section. 7 PhD and 53 MSc students concluded their studies under my (co-)supervision. Many are working in leading companies within the semiconductor ecosystem (e.g., ASML, Raith, AMD, PragmatIC), while others followed an academic path, getting permanent contracts in Portugal and abroad. As high-level advisory and decision-making bodies, since 2022 I am member of the Portuguese Council for Science, Technology and Innovation (CNCTI) and also a member of the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL) council.
