I have been working at the Center for Neuroscience & Cell Biology (CNC) since 2017. In 2017, I obtained my BSc degree in Biochemistry, at the University of Coimbra (UC), with a final score of very good (17.3; 0-20 scale).In 2016/2017, I performed my BSc Project under the supervision of Dr Ana I. Duarte and Prof Paula I. Moreira at the Metabolism, Mitochondria and Hormones in Brain Disorders Laboratory (CNC, Coimbra) with a final score of 19. In 2019, I obtained my MSc degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology at FCTUC,under the same supervision with a final score of excellent (18.3; 0-20 scale). In my MSc defense, I obtained a final score of 19. During the MSc, I also studied the brain effect of 1) reproductive aging and/or type 2 diabetes (T2D); 2) diet-induced high cardiovascular risk (HCR). From November 20th 2019 to August 19th 2020, I worked a MSc Researcher (BIM) Fellow (integrated in the EU-funded project Healthy Aging 2020, CENTRO-01-0145-FEDER-000012#2), at the same Laboratory and with the same supervision. During these months, I concluded my MSc degree studies and had the pleasure to participate in other studies, namely on 1) neuroprotective effect of liraglutide in the mature 3xTg-AD female mouse model of Alzheimer´s disease; 2) role of reproductive aging and/or T2D in the brain; 3) HCR impact in the brain; 4) neuroprotection by Evolocumab against HCR. Since September of 2020 to July of 2021, I worked as a Volunteer MSc Researcher at the Mitochondrial Toxicology and Experimental Therapeutics Laboratory (CNC/UC-Biotech, Cantanhede), headed by Dr Paulo Oliveira, under the supervision of Drs Filomena Silva and Ana I. Duarte. During these months, I had the opportunity to actively participate on the 1) analysis of the mechanisms of mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative stress in cultured lymphoblasts from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) patients with and without SOD1 mutation(FCT-funded project PTDC/MED-FAR/29391/2017); 2) effect of novel mitochondria-targeted antioxidants and oxidative damage in fibroblasts (FCT-funded project POCI-01-0145-FEDER-028607); 3)role of metabolism-targeted drugs in a cellular model of Doxorubicin (DOX)-induced cardiotoxicity. Hence, I became autonomous in cell line cultures (H9c2 cardiomyoblasts) and in dose or time vs. response studies. Previously, I studied the pathophysiological mechanisms (at the level of brain metabolism and intracellular stress) underlying metabolic (T2D) and neurodegenerative diseases (Huntington's and Alzheimer's diseases) and reproductive aging, alongside the potential neuroprotection by non-pharmacological and pharmacological approaches (including anti-diabetes drugs-GLP-1 mimetics). From 2022 to 2023, I also participated in 2 other projects: CôaMedPlants and MitoBOOST v2.0. During these years in Science, I acquired a strong background in Biochemistry, Metabolism, Neuroendocrinology, and Neuroscience. I gained theoretical and practical experience in the use of Excel dynamic tables/graphs, statistics softwares GraphPad Prism and SPSS as well as in various techniques, such as ELISA, colorimetry, fluorimetry, cell culture and animal practice. At this respect, I took the Animal Experimentation Course "IV Modular Training in Laboratory Animal Course. Since January of 2022, I have been a PhD Student from the Doctoral Programme in Experimental Biology and Biomedicine of UC, after obtaining a 4-year PhD scholarship from FCT. My bibliometric outputs include 3 original papers (sixty-three citations, Google Scholar; fifty by Scopus; Hi=2), 1 MSc Thesis, 12 oral presentations, 36 poster communications, 16 proceedings in conferences and 9 prizes. I also participated in science communication activities, realized courses to improve my abilities, and helped in the laboratorial supervision of 12 students and 1 Internacional Post-Doctoral Research.
