Patrícia Sofia Menalha Amado graduated from the University of Algarve's Faculty of Science and Technology with a Master in Pharmaceutical Sciences (MICF) in 2015. She is currently a researcher at Algarve Centre of Marine Sciences (CCMAR), and she is finishing her PhD degree in Chemistry (specialty in Organic Chemistry), under the supervision of Prof. Maria de Lurdes Cristiano (University of Algarve) and Prof. Paul O'Neill (University of Liverpool). She has 10 peer-reviewed publications in journals such as the Journal of Organic Chemistry, ACS Omega, Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters, Medicinal Research Reviews, Molecules, ChemPlusChem, and The Journal of Physical Chemistry A. She participated in 10 international (3 poster presentations) and 5 national (3 oral and 4 poster presentations) conferences/symposiums/seminars/summer schools. She also co-supervised one project for the course of Biochemistry. In 2021, she received a prize (as first classified in the R&D category) in the contest "Ideias em Caixa 2020", along with two colleagues (Dr. Joana Leal and Prof. Maria Lurdes Cristiano). She also won the best poster prize at Conference ESOR2021, in September 2021. During her course at MICF, she received three awards as the year's best student. Her main fields are Synthetic and Organic Chemistry, with an emphasis on Medicinal Chemistry, her research interests include the development of novel catalysts for the synthesis of cyclic endoperoxides, the discovery of novel molecules for drug design, focusing on human infectious diseases such as Leishmaniasis and Tuberculosis, and the aquaculture parasitic disease Amyloodiniosis. Her laboratory skills involve detailed planning of new routes of organic reactions to synthesize novel compounds, from setting reactions up to their follow-up, followed by the procedures required for isolation and complete characterization of the nature and purity of synthesized products (1D/2D NMR, MS, IR). Computer skills: Microsoft Office (advanced in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint); IBM SPSS Statistics, ChemDraw, MestreNova, StarDrop, PyMol, GOLD suite, Spartan, Weka. Programming Languages: R and Python. Personal skills: resilient, responsible, proactive, and teamwork. Keywords: 1,2,4,5-tetraoxanes, 1,2,4-trioxanes, malaria, leishmaniasis, amyloodiniosis, tuberculosis.
