Professor Catedrático de Gestão (2001-aposentado em 2022) em Espanha, foi diretor da Faculdade de Ciências Empresariais (1996-1997), do Departamento de Gestão e Marketing (2001-2004) e do Grupo de Investigação em Turismo, GEIDETUR (2004-2017), na Universidade de Huelva, instituição onde também serviu como diretor da Unidade de Gestão Estratégica e Coordenador do seu Plano Estratégico (2005-2009), bem como Diretor da Cátedra Cepsa (2004-2010). Foi Diretor do campus Ibero-americano de "La Rábida" (2009-2010) na Universidade Internacional da Andaluzia (também em Espanha). Foi Diretor do Programa de Doutoramento em Ciências Empresariais (1997-1999) na Universidade Columbia (Paraguai). Membro do Conselho Geral (2010-2014) e Professor Visitante (2012-2013) na Universidade do Algarve (Portugal). Desde 2010 é Académico Titular da Academia Andaluza de Ciência Regional e Professor Convidado na York St. John Business School (Inglaterra). Foi Professor convidado e membro do Conselho Consultivo na School of Business and Entrepreneurship da Royal Agriculture University (Inglaterra, 2013-2016) e um dos membros fundadores da Euro-Asia Tourism Studies Association, em 2015. Em 2017, foi Professor Convidado na School of Business, President University (Indonésia), e, em 2018, na Faculdade de Economia da Universidade de Messina (Itália). Foi representante da Universidade de Huelva na OMT (Organização das Nações Unidas para o Turismo) e no CUEIM (Consorzio Universitario di Economia Industriale e Manageriale - Itália). Foi Presidente do Círculo Ibérico de Economia Empresarial, CIBECEM (2005-2014) e responsável da Rede Luso-Espanhola de Investigadores em Turismo, REINTUR (2009-2014). Perito internacional em Instituições de Avaliação e Acreditação da Qualidade do Ensino Superior em países como Portugal e Lituânia, com vasta experiência académica em todo o mundo. Fundador e Editor do ‘Enlightening Tourism: A Pathmaking Journal’ (2011-2022), indexado na SCOPUS. É um dos investigadores espanhóis na área de turismo no “Ranking of the World Scientists: World’s Top 2% Scientists” publicado em 2022 e 2023 pela Universidade de Stanford, bem como entre o 0,5% dos melhores investigadores mundiais na área do turismo, segundo ScholarGPS (2022). Atualmente (2024-) é professor catedrático convidado na Faculdade de Economia da Universidade do Algarve (em regime parcial, 10%, e PRO BONO).
