Cristina Sequero López

I obtained my Graduate Degree in Geology at the University of Granada (Spain) in 2014, finishing with an Excellence Graduate Academic Award. Between 2014 and 2015, I performed a postgraduate research internship at the Instituto Andaluz de Ciencias de la Tierra (CSIC-UGR) in Granada (Spain), where I started my research career acquiring laboratory skills in geochemical analyses for obtaining palaeoclimatic reconstructions from speleothems and lacustrine sediments. In 2015, I initiated my MsC studies at the Department of Earth Sciences of the University of Zaragoza (Spain), finishing with an Excellence Postgraduate Academic Award, and in 2016, I was awarded with a PhD Scholarship grant (FPU program) from the Spanish government to start my PhD research. During my PhD, I focused my research in the stratigraphic, sedimentological and geochemical analysis of Iberian Upper Jurassic shallow carbonate ramp deposits, to unravel the factors controlling facies distributions, sequential architecture and palaeoclimate evolution. In 2018, I complemented my PhD research performing a 3-months stay in the group of Prof. Giovanna Della Porta at the Earth Sciences Department Ardito Desio of the University of Milan (Italy). During this stay, I acquired wide expertise in both carbon and oxygen stable isotope analyses and petrographic description of diagenetic features on ancient carbonates, as well as in the interpretation of this isotopic signal. In January 2021, I obtained my PhD Degree in Geology with Outstanding Cum Laude and International Mention qualification. In the same year, I got a postdoctoral position at the University of Jaén (Spain), to analyse the environmental and biotic changes related to the Early Cretaceous (Barremian-Aptian) hyperthermal events in the Southern Iberian Margin, by the application of multiple geochemical proxies, in collaboration with the University of Bristol (United Kingdom). Currently, I occupy a postdoctoral position at the Department of Earth Sciences at the FCT-NOVA (Caparica, Portugal), involved in chronostratigraphic, geochemical and sedimentological analyses on Upper Jurassic continental deposits in Portugal and Wyoming (USA), to contextualize relevant palaeontological findings. My scientific trajectory has materialized in several publications in high-impact SCI international journals (e.g. Marine and Petroleum Geology, Sedimentary Geology, Facies, Cretaceous Research), most of them as both first-author and corresponding author; and in contributions to numerous national and international congresses (both as oral and poster presentations). In addition, my research activity has been awarded several times by prestigious international associations: in 2018, by the International Association of Sedimenologists with an IAS Postgraduate Grant, and by the international "1st Arabian Journal of Geosciences Congress" for the best contribution in the corresponding category; in 2019, with a IAS Travel Grant to attend one of the IAS congresses; and in 2022, I was selected for one of the Juan de la Cierva Postdoctoral Grants funded by the Spanish Government, one of the most competitive and prestigious grants of the Spanish Postdoctoral Program. Parallel to my reseach trajectory, I have also been actively involved in academic and scientific committee's memberships. Currently, I am part of the IAS Early Career Scientists Committee, organizing activities for IAS Congresses and evaluating Postdoctoral Research Grants; and of the Scientific Committee of the 4th Palaeontological Virtual Congress. Besides, I have developed a considerable teaching activity at undergraduate level (180 hours), including the co-supervision of two BsC Theses and mentoring PhD students. I have attended to 7 national and international courses related to improving teaching methods and scientific skills in my field network, and contributed to scientific dissemination in public events and seminars, radio and TV interviews and educative experiments.
