Isaías Gomes is a researcher at ISQ in the Low Carbon and Resource Efficiency Unit. He is currently carrying out research in the field of modeling of sustainable energy systems, namely in the development of advanced optimization and planning tools for industries, buildings, and H2 integration in industries. Previously, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Algarve and INESC TEC in the development of energy management systems related to energy communities and industry with renewable production. He holds a degree in Renewable Energy Engineering, a master's degree in Solar Energy Engineering and a PhD in Mechatronics and Energy Engineering. Areas of interest include modeling of sustainable energy systems, optimal planning and energy management, renewable energy, electricity markets, mathematical programming, mixed integer linear programming and stochastic programming. Skills - Strong programming skills in the field of optimization of energy systems in top languages: Python, MATLAB, and GAMS. - Strong mathematical formulation (operations research) skills in energy filed. - Proven experience in modelling and optimization of home energy management systems (HEMS) and energy management systems of energy communities. - Proven experience in the problem formulation and optimization of integrated operation of industry (manufacturing scheduling) and renewable energy. - Proven experience with MILP, MINLP, and stochastic programming applied to energy field. - Proven experience in the modeling and scheduling of operation of electrical devices: energy storage systems, electric vehicles, and electrical appliances. - Proven experience in the modeling and scheduling of operation of conventional energy systems: thermal units, gas turbines, and microturbines. - Proven experience in the mathematical formulation of demand response and flexibility. - Proven experience with solvers: CPLEX, Gurobi, GLPK, SCIP, and IPOPT. - Proven experience in modelling and optimization in electricity markets, microgrids, and virtual power plants. - Experience with modelling and optimization of gas turbines with natural gas-hydrogen blends. - Experience with modeling and optimization of heat recovery in dryers and kilns. - Experience with clustering techniques.
