Curriculum Vitae

I am a marine ecologist specialized in the study of life-history traits, trophic ecology and energy dynamics of commercial marine species. I have special interest in advancing in the study of the synergistic effects of fisheries and climate change on the life-history traits of exploited species and how this affects the energy transfer in marine food webs at different spatial scales, to evaluate the vulnerability of marine resources and its socio-ecological consequences. My research is developed within a multi-technique framework. I use trophic biomarkers, stomach content and DNA metabarcoding in combination with direct and indirect body condition and reproduction indices to study the variation in energy content of marine fish in relation to changes in the environment. Also, I use Dynamic Energy Budget models using oceanographic data to simulate different scenarios of environmental conditions under climate change and qualitative mathematical complex models focusing in the role of fisheries and other predators in the dynamics of small pelagic fish. During the last years I have been involved in the design of co-management fishery strategies with the participation of different stakeholders of iconic fish species of the Mediterranean Sea. Currently, I am applying ecological and socio-economic climate vulnerability assessment of fisheries to inform future adaptation and mitigation strategies. I obtained my PhD degree in Marine Sciences at Polytechnic University of Catalonia with an Excellent Cum laude with the dissertation of “Ecological and Functional role of Small Pelagic Fish in the NW Mediterranean Sea”, that I conducted in the Institute of Marine Science (ICM-CSIC). I have published 16 articles (5 as first author and 4 as second author) with 127 cites, h-index of 7. I obtained 3 mobility grants (Raleigh, USA; Tasmania, Australia; Trieste, Italy) that gave me the opportunity to collaborate with new research fellows and increase my international collaborations. I have participated in several oceanographic research campaigns and attended 9 international congresses. In 2017-2019 I worked as a research coordinator and research assistant in European projects at the ICM-CSIC, and collaborated with two Spanish national projects. After finishing my PhD, I did a 6-month Postdoc at the ICM-CSIC and since November 2020 I am a postdoctoral researcher at the Centro de Ciências do Mar in the University of Algarve (Faro, Portugal) studying the ecological and socio-economical vulnerability to climate change of the Portuguese fisheries.
