Fernanda Rosário is a researcher in the field of toxicology, more specifically In vitro and In vivo Nanotoxicology. Her research is focused on inhalation hazards and toxicity of nanomaterials using in vitro and in vivo models. In 2018, she completed her PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biology (which was nationally ranked in 1st place for a Mixed PhD fellowship by FCT) at University of Aveiro, having the opportunity to enroll one year abroad at the Laboratory of Pneumology, Department of Public Health (KU Leuven, Belgium). The aim of her PhD was to assess the mechanisms of AgNPs toxicity in vitro and the biodistribution and excretion of AgNP in vivo. During that period, she won several awards and grants, including travel grants, course training grants, integration into research Grants. In 2021 she got a role as junior researcher at the Institute of Public Health (ISPUP) under the framework of the project NanoLegaTox, involved on the understanding of the biological effects of human exposure to mixtures of legacy and emerging contaminants (nanomaterials), using in vitro models. The work developed here contributed to understanding that the key drivers for nanomaterials toxicity may become an essential tool to create safer nanomaterials, increase their acceptance and speed up the development of new and safe materials and products. One of her publications is part of the Health and Environmental Research Online database (HERO) by EPA. From 2022 to 2023, she acquired new perspectives advanced techniques, working at I3S, Porto (Genetic Diversity group), where she was responsible for developing innovative in vitro 3D models mimicking tumoral heterogeneity to predict drug response. At the end of 2023, FR was awarded a highly competitive Individual Scientific Employment Stimulus Competition (CEEC) Junior researcher contract (2022.04220.CEECIND) "IMPlasti-Co: Multi-endpoint toxicological assessment of the impact of micro- and nanoplastics on human health - a co-culture in vitro approach", currently in progress at the Cell Culture and Cytometry R&D Group (CESAM – UA). In addition, her work has been recognized internationally, as I was awarded a NanoTox 2021 Bursary and a best paper award from the IACOBUS program (2021,2022). As a young researcher she has 127 citations with h-index 6 in Scopus (Scopus ID: 57191200818 ), and presented her work in 4 oral (2 as invited speaker) and 20 poster communications in internation/national conferences. She participated in 2 Cost Actions,, 2 ongoing Horizon Europe projects: "BMRex-Hopon" and "AMRAMR" and 2 concluded FCT projects: "ASSAY - PTDC/AACAMB/113649/2009" and "Nanolegatox - POCI-01-0145-FEDER-029651". She has also organized 3 scientific events and was a tutor at several practical sessions for ungraduated and graduated students, co-supervised 3 master students and was jury of academic degree of 2 master students. Over the last few years, she has been working in the field of Toxicology, especially in Nanotoxicology and contributed my her field of study by helping to improve the quality of research, as a reviewer, for international journals. Her main scientific expertise, interests and activities are: In vitro cell culture; Cell Biology; Cyto- and Genotoxicity; Nanotoxicology; pharmacokinetics and PBPK modeling; Flow Cytometry analysis; mmunofluorescence techniques; Human and Public Health; Toxicology; Nanobiomedicine; 3D models; spheroids; Micro- nanoplastics
