Fabíola Costa is specialized in the development of antimicrobial coatings through antibiotic-free strategies, namely by applying polymers with intrinsic antimicrobial properties or by chemically modifying polymers with Antimicrobial Peptides. She is currently Junior researcher at i3S at the Bioengineered surfaces team. She is also Invited Assistant professor at Instituto de Ciências Biomédicas Abel Salazar (ICBAS) of the University of Porto. With a background of Pharmaceutical sciences (Bsc) and a Master in Applied Microbiology, she decided to focus on the development of antimicrobial coatings during her PhD in Biomedical Engineering at Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP), where she graduated Cum Laude in 2015. Since then, F.Costa has collaborated in 9 projects and is currently the Principal Investigator of AntiBioCoat project financed by CaixaImpulse program 2018 (La Caixa Foundation). F.Costa has been engaged in several technology transfer programs including RESOLVE 2016: Technology Transfer Ignition Program in the Health Sector, Portugal (Norte2020) and HiTech- training Program in translating technology and entrepreneurship skills from Porto Business School (2018). F.Costa has been awarded 7 times, including Everis awards 2019 semi-finalist at National level Lisbon andBest Innovation Project Award, RESOLVE 1st Edition, with AntiBioCoat Project (2018). F.Costa has published 1 patent, 10 peer-reviewed papers in Q1 international journals, which resulted on more than 450 citations, and 3 book chapters.
