Margarida Marques (MM) graduated in 2021 in Cellular and Molecular Biology at NOVA School of Science and Technology (Universidade NOVA de Lisboa). Her work as an undergraduate student was focus on horizontal gene transfers from bacteria to a floral yeasts clade, and its influence on their uptake of several sugars, and resulted in a publication as co-author in mSphere. After this period she started a master degree in Medical Microbiology at Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biológica António Xavier (Universidade NOVA de Lisboa). In 2022, she carried out her master's thesis where she studied the biofilm forming capacity by bacteria isolated from the midgut of Anopheles mosquitoes (vector of malaria), under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Henrique Silveira (IHMT), and Co-supervision of Dr Sofia Costa (IHMT) and Dr Sandra Pinto (iBB/IST). During her master project she had the opportunity to work both at Instituto de Higiene e Medicina Tropical and Instituto Superior Técnico, and to explore different techniques and areas of knowledge. This project resulted in a paper recently submitted to Frontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology, of which MM is the first author. The work was already presented as poster at the 3rd iBB workshop and an oral presentation at Microbiotec 2023 (national conference) by MM. Furthermore, MM work was now selected for poster presentation in the most comprehensive and influential international meeting on Infectious Diseases (34th European Congress of Clinical Microbiology & Infectious Diseases). Currently, in order to deepen her knowledge of Microbiology and also to get to know the application of this subject in industry, MM holds a position as Associate Microbiology Analyst at the world-renowned pharmaceutical company Hovione. In her Ciência Vitae CV, the most frequent terms used to contextualize her scientific, technological and artistic-cultural production are: microbiota; Pseudomonas spp.; malaria control; bacterial biofilms.
