Manuel Sá Valente is a researcher at the Centre for Ethics, Politics, and Society at the University of Minho. He graduated in Economics from the Portuguese Catholic University in 2016 and completed a Master of Arts in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics in 2018 with Leiden University (cum laude). In 2022, Manuel Sá Valente obtained his PhD in Philosophy from the University of Louvain, at the Hoover Chair in Economic and Social Ethics, where he remains a member. Since then, he has worked as a lecturer at Leiden University, UCLille, and UCLouvain, where he taught courses in Political Philosophy and Ethics. In addition, he was a researcher on the 'Intergenerational Justice Index' project at the Institute for Public Policy—Lisbon. Manuel's research focuses mainly on theories of justice between generations, age groups, people living lives of different longevity, and their intersection with public policy, especially retirement pensions. His writings on these topics have appeared in international academic journals such as the Journal of Applied Philosophy, Politics, Philosophy and Economics, Ethical Theory and Moral Practice, Res Publica, Law, Ethics and Philosophy, Basic Income Studies, and a book published by Oxford University Press. He has also co-authored a policy paper and occasionally writes for the media. Currently, he has a co-authored book under contract with Cambridge University Press.
