Ana Paula Piedade has a BSc in Biochemistry, a MSc in Cellular Biology and a PhD and Habilitation in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Coimbra, Portugal. Since 2022 she is Associate Professor with Habilitation at the Universidade de Coimbra . She has more than 120 scientific outputs of published work in Conferences and in scientific journal, mostly from Q1 and with high impact factors. She was the director of Bioengineering and Polymer Synthesis Group of CEMMPRE- University of Coimbra until 2018. Since 2022 she is the coordinator of the Material and Process Group of CEMMPRE. She is/was PI of more than 12 National and International projects from competitive funding calls. She participated in more than 30 National and International Evaluation Panels for Post-Doc and PhD Grants, as well as for Research Projects. The scientific activity reflects the different approaches, made throughout the years, always related to abiotic and biotic materials, their characterization and application. Actually, the interest relays on different areas such as micro and nanotechnologies and additive manufacturing, particularly 4D printing, of biomimetic structures. With the major concern of using environmental sustainable technologies, within the frame of circular economy, green technologies, such as sputtering is used for the modification/production of nanostructured, functionally graded and hybrid nanocomposites surfaces. Also bacteria are used as "living tools" both as producers of sustainable non-pollutant materials and as tools for micromanufacturing. She is/was supervisor of 8 PhD students, more than 80 MSc students, and 5 Post-Doc Researchers, in very different areas such as Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Electrotechnical Engineering and Biology.
