Rafael Henriques holds a doctoral degree at the Centre for Mathematics of the University of Coimbra (CMUC) where the research work is carried out within the group of Numerical Analysis and Optimization. His research interests include mathematical modeling with partial differential equations, development of numerical methods for solving them and analysis of these methods. He also develops research on machine learning and numerical optimization algorithms to solve inverse problems where the estimation of model parameters/functions are the central issue. His work is based on real applications whose objective is to develop an optical coherence elastography technique for measuring in vivo the mechanical properties of the retina on animal models, with the purpose of detecting early signs of neurodegeneration.
