Mounir Sabeh Affaki

Mounir Sabeh Affaki is an architect and researcher in architecture. He holds a PhD in Architecture from the University of Coimbra (2021) followed by a 2-year postdoctoral employment at the Department of History and Theory of Architecture of the Czech Technical University in Prague. Mounir’s research focuses on post-war reconstruction and architectural conservation practices, addressing issues related to heritage, memory, and public space. His doctoral thesis (2021), ‘Architecture of Peace: Staging Reconciliation in Post-War Aleppo’, explores how architecture and urban planning can contribute to post-war social recovery and reconciliation processes. His postdoctoral work focused on heritage conservation and management issues related to post-war modern architecture in the Czech Republic. It traced and assessed heritage values and investigated conservation policies and practices related to monument designation and world heritage sites. His academic profile is enriched by international and collaborative research projects, conferences, teaching experiences, and peer-reviewed publications in architecture, heritage, memory, and urbanism.
