Nuno Miguel Cortez Afonso Dias. Completed the PhD in Physics-Solid Earth Geophysics in 2006 by Universidade de Lisboa/Faculdade de Ciências, MSc in Geophysical Sciences-Solid Earth Geophysics in 1997 by Universidade de Lisboa/Faculdade de Ciências and Licenciatura (BSc) in Geophysical Sciences in 1994 by Universidade de Lisboa/Faculdade de Ciências. Is Adjunct Teacher in Instituto Politécnico de Lisboa/Instituto Superior de Engenharia de Lisboa since 2008, a teaching-intensive institution (former polytechnical institute), and Integrated Researcher in Instituto Dom Luiz/FCUL since 2006. Between 2012-2014 was Invited Researcher at IFREMER-Brest (Geosciences marines), in joint ISEL-IFREMER projects funded by PETROBRAS. Published 20 articles in ISI journals as author or co-author. Has 2 section(s) of books, and several communications to national and international conferences (EGU, AGU, ESC, SEISMIX, etc). Has currently 2 articles submitted to ISI journals as co-author. Has reviewed several articles for reference journals in Earth Sciences. Participates and/or participated as Principal investigator in 3 project(s), 1 with FCT funding (WILAS) and 2 with Industry funding (SALSA, MOZ3-5) and Researcher in 11 project(s). Works in the area(s) of Earth Sciences with emphasis on Geophysics/Seismology. Has an expertise on seismic methods to image the Earth's interior, particularly body-waves with both passive and active sources, and also on crustal seismic anisotropy. His work as focused on the seismicity and crustal 3D structure of islands and oceanic plateaus (Azores, Madeira, Cape Verde), continental intra-plate environments (Western Iberia) and continental margins (Brazil and Mozambique). It has led or participated in several seismic deployments, for passive sources in mainland Portugal (WILAS project, Lusitanian Basin, Monchique integrated in SPIDER project), Cape Verde, Madeira and Azores archipelagos (in Faial-Pico integrated in AWARENESS and in Terceira in a joint IDL-ICT project) and for active source in NE Brazil (SALSA project) and SE Mozambique (MOZ3-5 project). Being a teacher at a Polytechnic school, can only be PhD co-advisor of other institutions. Currently is co-advisor of a University of Lisbon PhD student on the 3D crustal structure of southern Portugal.
