Catarina Marques obtained her BSc in in Biology at the University of Azores in 2008, with a final year project entitled “Development and in vitro characterization of composite materials for bone repair/regeneration”, with the collaboration of the company ÁgoraMat – Advanced Materials, Ltd – Aveiro, CICECO, University of Aveiro, –and ICB - Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil. She undertook a MSc in Materials and Biomedical Devices at the University of Aveiro in 2010, with “Porous granules for bone regeneration and controlled drug release” as subject. After that, she was awarded a 4 years PhD fellowship from FCT (SFRH/BD/78355/2011) and, in 2017 obtained a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from the Aveiro University, with the collaboration of Institute of Research and Innovation for Health (i3S), University of Porto. Along this period of time, she was granted with a scholarship from European Ceramic Society for a 6-month internship in Departamento de Ingeniería Mecánica, Energética y de los Materiales, University of Extremadura-Badajoz Spain, in a group with recognized experience in ceramic pastes printing, where she development porous materials by 3D printing, under the guidance of Prof. Pedro Miranda. The PhD entitled “Design and processing of porous scaffolds based on calcium phosphates by robocasting for bone tissue engineering”, was focused on the development of porous scaffolds based on calcium phosphates, doped with different ions, produced by robocasting for bone tissue engineering purposes. In January of 2018, she moved to the ICVS/3B’s Associate Laboratory from University of Minho, with a postdoctoral fellowship, where she started working on 3D printing using biopolymers combined with calcium phosphates for innovative tissue engineering and regenerative medicine approaches. In same year, she was awarded a contract as a Junior Researcher (CEECIND/04687/2017), in Scientific Employment Stimulus from FCT, envisioning to deepen the knowledge with marine biomaterials for applications in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine approaches. From the work performed, she produced 15 Scopus indexed publications with over 288 citations, resulting in an h-index of 9, according to Scopus. Along her path, she has been non-formally co-supervising PhD and MSc students. Additionally, she was a co-editor of a Special Issue: Marine Organisms for Bone Regeneration – 2020, from Marine Drugs Journal. Finally, she has been involved in the organization of several events and projects preparation and submission with international collaboration.
