Alda Marques is currently a full professor at School of Health Sciences (ESSUA) and a research member of the Institute of Biomedicine (iBiMED), University of Aveiro, Portugal. She coordinates the Lab3R-Respiratory Research and Rehabilitation Laboratory at ESSUA since 2009. Marques is currently an active member of the European Respiratory Society, International Lung Sound Association, Portuguese Pulmonology Society and is the vice-president of the Respiratory Physiotherapist Group of the Portuguese Pulmonology Society. Her research interests are by working with multidisciplinary teams, to: i) develop/implement new measures or set of outcome measures; ii) explore new models of implementation/dissemination/optimisation of personalised non-pharamacological intervention, namely pulmonary rehabilitation, physical activity and self-management, of people with chronic respiratory disease and their families; iii) develop new models to maintain long-term results after rehabilitation in people with chronic respiratory disease and their families. Marques has more than 170 publications in peer-reviewed journals, 6 published books and 12 book chapters in respiratory diseases. She has been principal investigator of 12 funded research projects (FCT/FCG/COMPETE2020/POISE) related with respiratory disease management. She has been also a member of the research team of 8 other funded research projects, one an international multicenter trial. Marques has vast experience in supervising Postdocs, PhDs and Master students. The results from these studies have and will continue to contribute to address the lack of research on person-centered outcomes and non-pharmacological interventions, namely pulmonary rehabilitation and physical activity, to optimise meaningful care for people with chronic respiratory diseases and their families. Marques has received 18 distinctions and awards for her work, some of which have inspired the next generation of scientists.
