Curriculum Vitae
Telmo Pereira
I completed the Masters in Biological Engineering (2009) in Instituto Superior Técnico, Universidade de Lisboa. My master
thesis was done abroad in Milan, Italy on Bio-Engineering and bio transformation under the supervision of Prof Francesco
Molinary (Universita degli study di Milano). I then moved back to Lisbon, and started a research fellow (2009-2011) at Instituto
de Medicina Molecular on Bio-image analysis of microscopy images mainly of Drosophila and Zebrafish wound healing, under the
supervision of Prof Antonio Jacinto. On 2012 I started my PhD (2012-2017) entitled "The Cell cycle around the wound when
software meets biology" as a joint effort between 3 institutes, Instituto de Medicina Molecular, Chronic Diseases Research
Center/NOVA Medical School, CEDOC/NMS and Université Pierre-et-Marie-Curie, Paris, under the supervision of Jose Rino, PhD,
Prof Antonio Jacinto and Prof Luis Almeida respectively. During these years I learned and developed my skills in bioimage
analysis, computer vision, microscopy and optics, systems biology and drosophila genetics. Also 4 peer-reviewed articles were
published as co-author and I participated in several international meetings. I started working as a Microscopy Facility technician
in 2015 at CEDOC and in 2019 I got the position as Facility Head. Currently, I am focused on developing bioimage analysis
methods on microscopy image quantification and also medical imaging analysis mainly on Retina OCT imaging. I am also focused
on developing Machine and Deep learning tools and workflows to solve image analysis related problems. In total, I am now author
in 19 peer-reviewed papers with around 650 citations and an H-index of 10 (Web of Science). I also supervised 2 Master students
and a PhD student. I have also been active in science outreach (e.g. institute open days) and organizing international (SPAOM2018,
SPAOM2023, SPAOM2025 and CTLS2021) scientific meetings. I am involved in two Portuguese Research infrastructures, PPBI and
PT-OPENSCREEN, and the international ones EuroBioimaging, EU-OPENSCREEN and CTLS. I am also the Chair of the PPBI Communication
and Dissemination Working Group. I am also involved in the Eurobioimaging Remote access expert group, Eurobioimaging image
analysis and data management expert group, QUAREP-LIMI Training working group, PPBI Quality Control and Image Analysis and
in the CTLS Training working group.
