Duarte M. S. Albuquerque is a 38-year-old researcher. He attended the Masters in Aerospace Engineering until December 2008 and enrolled the Computational Mechanics Engineering PhD Program with a four years scholarship from FCT. The PhD defence was on December 27th 2013. Both degrees were obtained at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST). He obtained a merit diploma during his Masters and he was always a dedicated student in computational related courses, which can be verified in his own grades. He is a specialist in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) with his code from his PhD, SOL. His main scientific interests are immersed boundary methods, high-order schemes, unstructured and adaptive grids, machine-learning modelling approaches, and coupled problems with multiple physics. He has supervised a total of 25 Master Thesis in IST and 2 in FCT-UNL in three different degrees: 13 in Aerospace Eng., 11 in Mechanical Eng. and 3 in Data Science and Eng. From these students a total of 15 had a research scholarship: 8 in HIBforMBP, 3 in DESTINY, 2 in EuroHPC initiative and 2 in Extreme (a forest fire related project from 2014). Notice that most of these students had a final grade of 19 in 20 values. He has experience at manipulating and supervising works or Thesis with other CFD codes like COMSOL, StarCCM+, and OpenFOAM, in a linux operating system. In 2018, he lectured the practical classes and supervised the computational works in the Computational Fluid Dynamics and Biofluids Mechanics courses from IST. He has reviewed 41 times several articles, registered in orcid and publons websites. He was an Integrated Member from LAETA/IDMEC from 2014 until 2023. In 2024, he joined UNIDEMI as an Integrated Member. To improve his previous position, he obtained a researcher working contract with IST in June 2019, which was renewed and evaluated positively in June 2022. He joined FCT-UNL in a permanent position as a Auxiliar Professor where he lectures several courses: aerodynamics, flight dynamics, gas dynamics and fluid mechanics II. He is a member of the scientific commission from the Aerospace Master Degree of FCT-UNL (Nova University of Lisbon). Currently, he has a team with seven PhD students with a four years scholarship that includes the tuition fees. He was the PI of a Project with a total budget of 240 000¿ and that was scientifically evaluated with a positive grade. Additionally, he contributes/contributed scientifically, as Co-PI, for two European projects with the industrial where IST is responsible for the numerical simulations of novel microwave applicators. He has published twelve articles, being the corresponding author and leader of those research lines. He recently submitted three articles from the works carried out with his students.
