Sara Marques is PhD in Biotechnology Applied to Health Sciences (Sept. 2020) and MSc in Pharmaceutical Sciences (2014). S. Marques is co-author of 18 articles published in international peer-reviewed journals (7 as 1st author, 2 as corresponding author, 12 in Q1 journals (6 with IF higher than 6), 134 citations), 1 book chapter, 22 posters, and 14 oral communications. S. Marques started her career in analytical chemistry working in the development of microplate and automated flow injection-related methods to evaluate antioxidant capacity in human matrices (serum, saliva and tears) at Prof. Marcela Segundo lab (FFUP, 2012-2013). In 2014, she performed an international placement under the ERASMUS program (Prof. Petr Solich research group, Czech Republic) expanding her expertise in flow injection analysis methods for cellular-drug interaction studies. After MSc graduation, S. Marques was a research fellow of the NEPCAT project (NORTE-07-0202-FEDER-3890), acquiring practice in cell culture and toxicity/cellular viability assays (LAQV-REQUIMTE-FFUP, 2015). In September 2020, S. Marques received her PhD degree from ICBAS, UP (BiotechHealth program fellowship, 2016-2020), which was dedicated to the development of innovative analytical methods to characterize nanoparticles´ encapsulation efficiency and concentration. During her PhD, S. Marques consolidated her expertise in analytical method development namely in HPLC, micro-bead injection spectroscopy, sequential-injection analysis, and size-based separations. Also, she was a visiting researcher for 6-months at the National Physical Laboratory (NPL, UK, 2019), working at Dr. Caterina Minelli research group, acquiring further knowledge in nanoparticle characterization procedures and techniques (nanoparticle density and concentration measurements). Still during PhD (2016-2020), S. Marques acquired FELASA C accreditation to perform in vivo experiments, was member of the organizing committee of 2 scientific conferences (V BiotechHealth Symposium and ANALITICA 2018), and team member of the project - Immuno-based molecular recognition combined to mesofluidics for solid-phase renewable assays (DE-PT exchange program nº A-20/16, 2016-2017). Her work was disseminated at several scientific conferences and recognized with 3 oral communication awards (2022, 2020 and 2019). Also, she was shortlisted to participate in the 70th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings by Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian in 2019. During her path, S. Marques has been also involved in supervision, teaching, and tutoring activities, including supervision/co-supervision of 3 MSc students and of one doctoral international collaborator, teaching analytical and inorganic chemistry classes and instrumental methods of analysis classes to undergraduate students (120h, >200 students, CESPU), and participating as tutor in lab classes for MSc students (30 students, >15h, FFUP). Her post-doc activity has been also focused on application to funding for research. In 2021, S. Marques was awarded with funding for a project dedicated to analytical methods for nanoparticles´ characterization (ACT4Nano- EXPL/QUI-QAN/0360/2021). From 2021-2023 Sara was principal investigator of the ACT4Nano project and research fellow at LAQV-REQUIMTE-FFUP. Also, in 2022, S. Marques was involved in an application granted with national funding, as coPI, in a project aiming at the development of 3D printed devices for the pre-treatment of biological samples (2022.06012.PTDC). Since October 2023, Sara works as Project Manager in the eHealth field.
