Evaluate consequences of droughts due to hydrological changes when a dam with a regulation reservoir is built, in particular the number of drought events and their intensity that occur downstream of the dam. To that end it has to be compared the drought events that occur after the dam construction and the drought events that would occur if there were no dam. Such study is elaborated using the SPI (Standardized Precipitation Index) applied to flows series in natural and modified stream.

2011/06/01 - 2011/10/31 Thesis Topic: Statistical modeling of flows and flood volumes in mainland Continental Portugal: conventional and bivariate analysis. The hydrologic design often requires the estimation of peak flood discharges for different return periods. One of the statistical procedures mostly used for that purpose is the frequency distribution analysis applied to annual maximum instantaneous discharges. However, the length of the available samples of such discharges is often too small to validate the statistical inference.
